Where is my Cuboingo game?
When you install the Cuboingo game, you are presented with a default folder location into which you Cuboingo will be saved. You may change this folder location, but for simplicity's sake, it is best to leave the path to which the game will be saved on your computer as "Program Files/Cuboingo". You may start your Cuboingo game by selecting 'Play Cuboingo' inside Start/Programs/Cuboingo. If, for some reason, you cannot locate your Cuboingo game, perform a Windows Search. In the 'Start' menu, select 'Search' then 'For Files or Folders...' Enter "Cuboingo" in the 'Search for files or folders named...' textarea then press the 'Search Now' button. If an application or folder named "Cuboingo" is found, double-click on it with your left mouse button.
Which version of Cuboingo do I have?
To find the version of Cuboingo you are using, start Cuboingo and select 'About Cuboingo' in the Help pull-down menu. You may also find this information at the top of the "readme.txt" text file within the Cuboingo folder.
Where do I get my Machine ID?

What are the minimum system requirements to play Cuboingo?
Does Cuboingo work on other systems?
Cuboingo is currently designed specifically for the IBM PC and compatibles. It is possible that a Macintosh "PC Emulator" may allow Cuboingo to run, but this has not been tested as of February, 2002. The best way to help get Cuboingo onto a platform such as Macintosh, Playstation, Game Cube, Gameboy Advanced, X-Box, etc. is to express your interest to those companies. A representative from one of those companies would be the most effective chance to help get Cuboingo ported to that particular platform. If you participate in a forum that is dedicated to a game system for which you would like to see Cuboingo, let the forum community know!
Do I need a graphics card to play Cuboingo?
An OpenGL compliant 3D accelerator card with at least 8 Megabytes of video RAM is strongly recommended to play Cuboingo. Before running Cuboingo, please be sure you have installed the latest drivers for your video card.
Do I need a special sound card to play Cuboingo?
Most sound cards should work. Microsoft DirectX is required for sound and music playback. Please visit www.microsoft.com/directx for the latest free version.
Can I use a mouse, joystick or joypad to play Cuboingo?
Though the plan is to support these control mechanisms in a future version, Cuboingo (as of Version 1.0) utilizes the computer keyboard for its control interface. To provide some flexibility, you have the option to configure your own game controls.
What are "Scripts"?
A Cuboingo Script (or "Game Script") is a text file that, when loaded, controls the progression of your Cuboingo game. For more information, click here.
How do I load Scripts?
To load a Cuboingo Script, start Cuboingo then click on the large rotating cube, or select 'Start' from the 'Game' pull-down menu. A dialog window opens and should look in the 'Scripts' folder inside your Cuboingo folder. Select a valid Script file and you'll start playing it!
When can I load Scripts?
Cuboingo allows you to load a script only from the Title Screen (the screen which displays after you double-click the Cuboingo application). You can replay a script after finishing a game by clicking on the 'Restart' button in the 'Game Over' or 'Game Win' screens.
How do I edit & save Scripts?
You edit and save your Cuboingo Scripts using a text editor, such as Notepad, Wordpad, MS-Word, etc. When you save, just be sure your script is saved as a simple 'Text Document' (with the ".txt" extension).
How do I make Scripts?
Click here for a comprehensive guide to making your own Cuboingo Game Scripts!
What is a "Stat"?
A 'Stat' is a statistics file that saves how well you played your Cuboingo game and is used by Senntient.com judges to determine contest winner(s). Information such as the total playing time, how many mistakes you make, how many times you rotate your cube, etc. are stored in this file.
What is a .CSF file?
Your Stats are saved as Cuboingo Stat Files, or CSF files with the .csf extension. These are for read-only purposes and are not used to play Cuboingo.
How do I save Stats?
To save your stats in the middle of playing a Cuboingo game, select 'Save' in the "Stats" pull-down menu or press 'Ctrl+s'. To save your stats after your Cuboingo game ends, follow the same method, or simply click on the 'Save Stats' button. When you save your Cuboingo stat file, you should enter your UserName at the Senntient.com Forums. This is used for verification purposes in contests, and when sharing stat files in the Cuboingo Colony. Note that Cuboingo searches for your saved stats files in the Stats folder, inside your Cuboingo folder.
NOTE: The Cuboingo Demo allows you to save Stats only after winning the game.
When can I save Stats?
Cuboingo allows you to save your stats anytime during a game, or immediately following a completed game (whether you won or lost). Cuboingo automatically opens the 'Save Stats' window when you win the Demo version.
How do I submit Stats?
To submit a Cuboingo Stats file, first save it and then select 'Email Stats' (or press Ctrl+E) from the 'Game' pull-down menu. In your email, attach your Stats file and send it as an attachment to Senntient.
How do I display Stats?
To display a saved stat file, 'Display' in the "Stats" pull-down menu or press 'Ctrl+d'. Cuboingo looks inside your 'Stats' folder for .csf stat files and displays any it finds in the 'Display Stats' window.
When can I display Stats?
You can display a saved Cuboingo Stat file at any time while the Cuboingo application is open. This includes the Title Screen, In-game Screen and Game End Screens (win or lose).
What is "DirectX?"
DirectX is another piece of software which enables programs to interact with your hardware more directly than is otherwise possible. It actually lets program interact with your video card, sound card, input devices, etc. Cuboingo uses DirectX to interact with your video and sound cards.
What version of DirectX do I need?
Our testing seems to indicate that DirectX 6 is the minimum required. The best way to find out if Cuboingo will work with your version is to simply try it! If Cuboingo complains about DirectX, you can download the latest version of DirectX from Microsoft at www.microsoft.com/directx. Please note that installing DirectX, like installing drivers, can be risky. Make sure you back up all of your important data before attempting this.
What is "OpenGL?"
OpenGL is software code that enables programs like Cuboingo to interact with video hardware. The video hardware is what creates the 3D cube as well as everything else you see in the Cuboingo world.
Why does Cuboingo say "OpenGL hardware not found"?
There are two possibilities - you do not have an OpenGL or Direct3D compliant video card installed in your computer, or you do not have the latest drivers for your video card. If you do not have an OpenGL or Direct3D compliant video card you can still play Cuboingo, but it probably won't look as good.
What are "drivers"?
A driver is software code that the video card manufacturer provides to implement the OpenGL and/or Direct3D software. In order for a program to use OpenGL/Direct3D to interact with your video card, the manufacturer has to provide a driver.
Where can I get a newer driver for my video card?
Go to the web site for your video card manufacturer to obtain the latest drivers for your computer. Please note that installing newer video drivers is always a little risky. You should always back up all of your important data before installing new drivers on your computer.
I have the latest drivers and Cuboingo still complains!
Many video cards do not have enough hardware to fully support OpenGL/Direct3D. You will have to play Cuboingo in software mode (which is automatically enabled if hardware isn't present).
Is there any way I can improve the frame rate in software mode?
Sure, there are three things you can try. All three things can be found in the Configuration dialog (in the Game menu). In the Graphics tab, try setting the visual quality to Medium. You can also try making the window size smaller (try 400x300). Finally, in the Music tab you can turn off music by sliding the music volume slider all the way to the left. Try each of these things independently and in combinations until you find a suitable quality and frame rate for your computer.
I have an nVidia-based video accelerator with recent drivers, and it still doesn't work. Anything else I can try?
There's one issue we have discovered in testing. Some 3D programs make a small change to your system which can break certain OpenGL programs. To fix this, open your WIN.INI file (click the Start button, select Run, and type in WIN.INI). Search for "DVA=0" (without the quotes). If this line exists, put a semicolon before the line. It should now look like ";DVA=0", without the quotes. Save the file and quit your text editor. Now try Cuboingo. If this doesn't fix the problem, or if it causes problems with other games, just remove the semicolon to restore things to the way they were.
I resized the window and now it's only using part of the window! The rest is black!
We have encountered some OpenGL drivers that don't re-initialize cleanly. Simply quit and restart Cuboingo to fix this problem.
Why does holding the 'Shift' key sometimes slow down my game?
On some keyboards, Cuboingo may appear to slow down when the 'NumLock' key is on. This is related to the way Windows passes Cuboingo messages regarding keyboard buttons and should occur only when the 'Shift' key is held and the cube is rotated at the same time. If you experience any similar slow down, make sure your 'NumLock' key is turned off.
If you are using the full commercial version of Cuboingo, and the above does not help, you are most-likely playing a Game Script that specifies the 'Shift' key to slow down gameplay when pressed, rather than speed it up (so in this case, playing a different script or editing this script is necessary to remedy the intended slow down). Click here for more information about how to control the speed of your game with the 'Shift' key with Cuboingo Game Scripts.
