Re: Sonic Xtreme: in 3D by Jeffrey Bones

Check back in a couple of hours I'm changing some stuff in the levels and then I'm going to upload a video to youtube. I'm happy with the way it's looking so far it's not EXACTLY the look of Sonic Xtreme but it comes pretty close and it still looks good.....

Oh yeah and you will be able to turn into Super Sonic via the chaos emeralds

Re: Sonic Xtreme: in 3D by Jeffrey Bones

An example of "Real" fisheye applied to my project
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lG3U11FrkSc  <-------YOUTUBE

As you can see it doesn't look good on my game

And here is the "Fake" fisheye effect I have opted to go with instead
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QV3aS__JqhM <-------YOUTUBE

On a side note I personally do not feel like fisheye is really necessary for this project. The game is already in 3d with a 3d aspect. all fisheye was in the first place was an attempt to make saturn games look more 3d and a lot of people like it's weird destorted look. thats it! The game doesn't really need it.

tongue2  If you don't like the fisheye then drop it.  I personally think it makes the game seem a bit off

the fake one or the real one makes it seem off? well I know the real one does but do you think the fake one is bad too?

Re: Sonic Xtreme: in 3D by Jeffrey Bones

I think the "fake fisheye" is pretty rad. It's not fisheye-like at all really, but the way the camera tilts is pretty interesting I think. Give more of a weight to some of Sonic's motion if you understand what I mean.

Re: Sonic Xtreme: in 3D by Jeffrey Bones

The fake one is okay, but I would set the alpha to exploit that little bug and make everything appear invisible around the edges.

Re: Sonic Xtreme: in 3D by Jeffrey Bones

Need Help. Would very much like to get this released on December 25

no fisheye

ramps don't work

and you know the thing that really bugs me about this fisheye thing? everybody I've talked to about it makes it seem so complex. There should just be a way to create an object that distorts the screen. programs like youcam can do this why can't somebody show me how to do this in GM?

Re: Sonic Xtreme: in 3D by Jeffrey Bones

Oh hai Jeffrey.

A few things:
* Forget about using fisheye in a 3d platformer. GM is just too slow for a post processing or vertex shader (or smth) based fisheye, let alone in combination with a 3d platformer.
* It's nice that you're trying to make a fangame like this, but what's the point? Andrew is already close to actually giving us a proper reanimation of Sonic Xtreme, why not just make a game of your own, instead?
* Don't use GM, it sucks, even after these updates, they just fix problems and spawn new ones.
* Just use Unity3D or something, the free version if it is already like... a million times better than the Pro version of GM (And yes, you can freely make commercial games with the free version of Unity as well.)
* It's nice that you came back.... Why did you double post two times already? Did you forget where the Edit button is located?

This community is based on positive support, not politely tashing people. Asking someone 'what's the point?'. That's really rude, man. Even if it's a suggestion as you seem to intend, your wording leaves something to be desired.

And telling somebody that what they're using sucks? That's pretty tactless, too.

If you want to offer advice constructively, then I would recommend taking a better look at your wording. You have some great knowledge to give, but your delivery leaves something to be desired.

Thanks Drawingblade. I guess I'm on my own. I really wanted to get this out on Christmas but I honestly don't see it happening now. I have been working on this thing for over a year now....

Look, it's not like I wanted to be rude, but I do agree, I probably should've had a better choice of words. I will do my best to explain what I meant.

With "What's the point" I meant that this has been done already so many times that making something like this on top of my zomg-old Sonic Xtreme example-thingy is just kind of a bit silly. I understand that Jeffrey probably put a lot of work into it, and I totally respect that, but all I wanted was to motivate him to work on something entirely better, because I know he can. Though I understand it probably didn't sound that nice.

Also, with "GM sucks" I meant.... GM just sucks. Look, I've worked with GM so many years, it's pretty natural that I'd know. It's not because he is using it, and it is not because anyone is using it, GM is just not very good for projects like this, end of story. The engine is slow, the amount of features is extremely low and to top it off, GM itself is kind of glichy. It used to be kind of better, even if it wasn't as fast as it is now, but wish you'd understand my point here, Drawingblade, I don't want Jeffrey to stop making games, I want him to use something better, like Unity, so he can actually put his potential to work.

Fair enough, wingedwolf. Just rethink your choice of words, alright? Like I said, you're smart, you know what you're talking about- just convey it a little better.

Jeffery_Bones- No problem smile1 Keep working at it, man! Good help is hard to find sometimes, but people can easily get sucked into a project that looks and plays awesome.

Re: Sonic Xtreme: in 3D by Jeffrey Bones

Would anyone be interested in seeing a Sonic Xtreme Christmas edition? The game will consist of Sonic Xtreme levels with a Christmas theme in which Sonic will have to collect presents in order to save Christmas from Dr Robotnik?
