Is there a FPS counter in the game then?
There is, as a code.
When the player's on screen, press F, P, then S to show the frame count. Sorry to not mentioned that earlier =<

Alright, managed to have a quick go, I think it's safe to say that the frame rate should be set back up to 60FPS. This should make those awesome visuals animate a lot more slicker and it will also make the game play "appear" a lot quicker. Also, is there a reason why this game is forced to be played in full screen? Trying to see how much CPU Usage it uses and it's next to none on my 2.2GHz Dual Core. So it should be fine on single-core machines too when it's set to Windowed mode.
Well I made a few tests running the game at 60 fps (Again on three computers), and just a quick note- when exporting games on my program (Game Editor), you can only export to window or full screen. Having it windowed has it run at 20 fps, even on my computer. Running at full screen is defiantly an improvement - though it feels a lil too fast when at 60. (I hadn't tried it much before since running the game unexported at 60 fps is worse than running an exe version.)
So now I've found the best speed was 50fps, its smooth like 60 only not too fast. You may think thats a strange number, but it reminds me of the old games where you had some at 50 fps or 60, and I knew some games for example; Shadow of the Beast were made for 50fps, otherwise at 60 it would be too fast!

I personally think that because the game itself is designed to be played at such a small resolution (Really gone for the retro feel, I see!) then windowed mode would be better suited. Especially if you look at these statistics:
http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_display.asp
As of the start of this year 0% of users were running at 800x600 or below monitor resolution, the other category is probably Netbook users who have a 1024x600 display. So Windowed mode would be much better than forced full screen.
Wow, i must be really old fasioned
Personally I feel running a game at this res in window mode is kinda ugly to be honest, I prefer it blown up. Its like comparing a nintendo game in its true res. to it being blown up on a TV. Also It wouldn't be possible to resize since Game Editor's not programmed to do that. I guess because it would other wise change the actual resoloution of the game.
And speaking of which, I chose that res since I was thinking of later porting this to smart phones, and if I made the game at a 1024x600 , It would mean changing everything!

Anyway that's the only issues I've come across. I'm not too sure if the program you've used to create this game can allow you to use external data but splitting your music in a separate folder instead of compiling it all into one executable would give you a performance boost when starting the application.
It certianally would help, though it wont do so in this program.

Can't wait to see how this developers and I hope my feedback is useful and constructive!!
Yes it defiantly helps

Woah, demo! Does it need to be ~250MBs? And does the filesize have to double to choose between Windowed/Fullscreen?
Also, lols @ "AXRIA, Sarah Kinzi are unregistered trademarks of James Leonardo"
EDIT: Played it. Awesomeness, Except for the audiorate(Is there such a word?)/framerate is horrible

Well I'm currently working on a smaller size version atm, i've narrowed it down to 260MB-ish removing some unwanted levels. I think I'll also want to remove some 'clone' actors (E.g. Collectibles).
mattt360 wrote:

Like i've probably mentioned before, my program can only export to either Window OR fullscreen. So in order to select a size, it requires two of the same file, one in full, one in window. (Though they're in .dat files, selected through an .exe window that asks to select what win/full)

Neawhh
Allright, as soon as i'm able to, I'll find a way to reduce size, improve frame rate ect. Infact while typing this, I thought of a way to make every level a seperate .dat file if absolutely necessary!

something bigger than 480x320, is it possible?
It certainly is, though this particular game was made for 480x320 so It would be easier for a later port to the iPhone.

I know its not much of a hot topic, but heres the newer version cut down to around 200 MB (RAR file is compressed to 156!)
Demo version 2.
Improvements:
-50fps
-unused content cut out for space

Use 7zip, compresses it better, and Im pretty certain winRar can compress/uncrompess 7zip files too.
I'll comment on it once I can, 40KBps internet takkes a long while to download your giant file.

I've attempted 7zip, though i couldn't compress it any better than winRAR did at 156mb. At best i got 7zip to compress to was something like 180mb, trying different option of highest this and lowest that.
Any suggestions on the options i should take in 7zip?

Interesting. Usually, 7zip offers higher compression then rar, but I can't manage to get it below the rar's size >_>
Anyway, game seems pretty nice, but the audio in the fist boss fight could do with some work (The soud effects are very loud compared to the music).
And after that boss I fight some invincible blue dude >_>
Offline
Invincible? Well i guess 20 hits is a bit much.
Ill shorten it down to 10 and make him blink when he's hit.
Ill fix the volume on the Boss' fire.
EDIT:
I have a new version here with a few tweaks, if this stuffs taking up too much space, you might want to delete the old one!

I've just been skimming through this thread since you bumped it, and i gotta say this looks pretty good. I'll offer more detail when i actually have time to read it when i'm not in class, but i like the concept so far, and i really liked the cover concept on one of the earlier pages. Also, i finally get your avatar now

Thanks (Its been a while since we last met, hasn't it
), So was it hard to tell what my avatar was before seeing that concept art? Just curious, I was thinking of changing it anyway.
